Do you use a needle or a gun?It is a piercing instrument AKA "gun" that is loaded with a single use, disposable cartridge. In the one-time use disposable cartridge there are sterile, hypoallergenic, pure medical titanium or medical plastic earrings. This ensures the least possible risk of transmitting any blood borne pathogen in a safe and hygienic manner. The medical grade earrings are also hypoallergenic (nickel free) and great for those with any sensitivities. The Blomdahl piercing method can only be performed by medical professionals, we are not body piercers. For more information on the Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing System please visit: Blomdahl Medical & Professional Ear Piercing I know this will also lead to concerns with using an instrument vs a needle. There has been a study comparing the Blomdahl piercing instrument and a needle, see below. Below is the conclusion from the study: "In conclusion, what this study does show is that the currently available methods to pierce the upper-ear are comparable with regard to direct tissue damage. Based on this, each method is expected to give the same risk for perichondritis. This means that if we want to reduce the risk of post-piercing perichondritis the focus should be on other risk factors: hygiene during the procedure and in after care. Hygiene is always important, but is vital in piercings through cartilage as the nature of the post-piercing tissue damage, although small, facilitates perichondritis. " Hope that helps!

When is the earliest I can pierce my infant? This is really a difficult question to answer. In some cultures parents make the decision to pierce their infants within days of being born and in others they wait until their child decides for themselves. I personally believe that if you want to pierce your child's ears then the earlier the better. Infants tolerate the procedure very well and by the time they are crawling/walking their piercings are healed. If you want to pierce your toddler, you just have to make sure they understand what is happening and that they are able to sit for the process. Keep in mind with school aged children, you have to take other things into consideration. Sports and other after school activities may warrant the child to remove their earrings and this may cause problems during the healing process. All in all everyone is different and I will be here to help you make the best decision for you and your little one.

Can I use my own earrings? No, you can not. Medical ear piercing uses cartridges that are preloaded with the medical grade, sterile, and hypoallergenic piercing earrings. These stay in for 6-8 weeks, then you can use your own earrings.

How do I care for my new piercing? You will clean the new piercing twice a day, everyday, for 6-8 weeks using sterile saline. The piercing earrings are to stay in for 6-8 weeks. Then, you will remove them and replace them with good quality earrings. You are to wear earrings everyday 24/7 for at least a year to ensure that piercing stays permanent.
